Purrfect Animal Services of Kent

Purrfect Animal Services of Kent

Hi, I’m Clare and I run Purrfect Animal Services of Kent, an animal care service based in Faversham. It provides Pet Sitting, Dog Walking and Animal Day Care services in the East Kent area.

I came up with my business idea after I graduated with an Animal Science HND. I was frustrated working in dead end jobs, not earning enough money, and not being able to use my knowledge of animals and the skills I have gained in my working life. So, last year I took the leap and decided that I was going to create a job for myself, be my own boss, and build a business using my love and compassion for animals.

I have 10+ years of experience with animals, with a particular interest in cats. I have had many of my own pets over the years, volunteered at animal sanctuaries and shelters, worked on a farm, gained plenty of practical experience with a range of animals, and studied hard for several qualifications and certificates over the years – which all my customers are shown during their consultation. All this has helped me to provide a professional approach to my work. My customers know that animal welfare and their pet’s needs are my top priority. Each animal is treated as an individual.

Clare Pet Sitter and Dog Walker FavershamI know it can be a stressful time for pets and their owners when they spend time away from home. Leaving them at a kennel or cattery, or even a boarding home, can be an extremely confusing and unpleasant experience for an animal that is taken away from both their home and their owner(s). I enjoy taking that stress away from pet owners by providing them with a peace of mind that their much loved pet(s) will receive the best possible love, care and attention.

Since Purrfect Animal Services of Kent launched, business has really taken off and I now enjoy the job that I have.  My next step is to look in to getting my own transport so that I can expand the business. I would like to be more flexible and provide my services in rural locations and other areas of Kent.

What’s ‘The Able Label’?

The Able Label designs and makes beautiful clothes that make dressing easier. For many, dressing can be challenging – lifting arms above shoulders, manipulating fiddly fastenings and bending down to pull trousers or skirts up can all be particularly difficult.  The ‘desirable and dress-able’ clothes use quality fabrics, discreet adaptive designs, innovative fastenings and colour-coordinated internals to make dressing quicker, easier and safer. Yet when they’re worn, no one would ever know they were adapted… it’s our secret!

Fashionable Adaptive ClothingIt all started when The Able Label founder, Katie Ellis, was a fashion buyer for the High Street clothing retailer, White Stuff. Her grandmother had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Katie saw that dressing was becoming increasingly difficult for her. So she searched for solutions but found there was nothing that fit the bill. Nothing stylish that was designed to be put on and taken off easily.

So that’s when Katie decided to do something about it. She designed, developed and tested a range of great-looking, adaptive clothing that so many people like her grandmother would love to wear yet also find it easy to live with.

Easy Dress Clothes from The Able LabelAnd that’s how The Able Label was born.

There are two key rules with The Able Label clothes:

·      No fiddly fastenings

·      No overhead dressing

We hope you love them as much as we do.

The Entrepreneur’s Journey Global Entrepreneurship Week UK

The Kent Foundation and The Business Terrace in Maidstone kick started Global Entrepreneurship Week UK by playing host to almost 50 local business people who joined them on The Entrepreneur’s Journey to The Entrepreneur's Journey - Global Entrepreneurship Weekget involved with the world’s biggest celebration of entrepreneurship.

The idea behind the inspirational event ‘The Entrepreneur’s Journey ’ tied in with this year’s GEW theme ‘Compass Points’ which identifies the various stages of business. Paul Barron, Director of The Kent Foundation, a charity providing free support to young business owners across Kent tells us more:

“The event was designed to project real, personal, factual stories of entrepreneurs who are at various stages in business. We achieved this by inviting four Kent businesses along to speak Paul Barron Director of The Kent Foundationand inspire others with their journey in business. Interestingly, collaboration was a common topic amongst all the speakers and this was confirmed as a vital link to running a business.”

“Collaboration in Business is the Way Forward”

The event featured speakers; Josh Bates from Cove Videos, Jo Hage and Sarah MacDonald from Rise Communications and Roger Williams from Intelligent Linking. Freya Briley, aged 23 and owner of Jest 4 Entertainment a recently established Maidstone based events company presented ‘Starting the Journey’:

left-to-right-jo-hage-and-sarah-macdonald-rise-communications-josh-bates-cove-videos-freya-briley-jest-4-entertainment-and-roger-williams-intellegent-linking“I’ve just started this journey which is interesting and really exciting. The idea for starting Jest 4 Entertainment came from my personal experiences through my drama degree and working for various private event companies. It became clear to me that I could build something for myself and add significant value to schools and businesses by boosting their interpersonal skills using drama based approaches. It is scary but there’s so much support, I am learning so much about myself and I’m loving it.”

Business support charity The Kent Foundation is dedicated to supporting young business owners such as Freya to reach their business goals. Paul Barron, Director reflected:

“This has been inspiring and portrayed a perfect example of a variety of entrepreneurial journeys from all backgrounds, business lifecycles and ages. The thing here is that at some point every one of them all recognised a gap and had to take that step to start their own business.”

The event was perfectly timed to celebrate the one year anniversary of The Business Terrace which provides a collaborative working environment for businesses to build a network, work with others and access free business support every day of the week.

Also a special mention to Ibi’s Kitchen who kindly sponsored the event by providing the catering – Absolutely amazing grub, do check them out!
